I could think of absolutely nothing positive to say about the service I have had from post office.
I have had download speed tests carried out on the line and have experienced average download speed of 0.15 mbs. Which actually makes it slower in real terms than the first dial up modem I had in the late 90's. When confronted about it they basically said that they could not guarantee any more than 1mbs anyway but if I paid £145 they would happily send an engineer round. Although they admitted they would not do anything about it anyway so whats the point?
    USELESS!

To anyone considering having a broadband account with Post Office, please be aware of the followings:
I would like to bring the following points to your attention:

    1. When I initially contacted one of Post office Telecom customer representative – and prior to set-up my account - I enquired about potential cancellation fees such as early termination charges occurring when entering into a contractual agreement for the provision of Premium Broadband services by Post Office Telecoms but was not made aware of any of these by their customer services representative.

    2. Referring to their Terms & Conditions, in particular section 33.2 After the service starts I have fully respected the cooling off period of 14 working days, during which I am entitled to cancel my account with Post Office Telecom Services without penalty/incurring additional charges. Despite all that, they charged me an early cancellation fee of £240.02 which is unfair.

    3. Furthermore I reminded Post Office of the existence of the Consumer Rights Directive of 2011 that obliges member states to give purchasers the right to return goods or cancel services purchased within two weeks from the receipt of the goods, for a full refund. The Consumer Rights Directive is implemented in the United Kingdom by the Consumer Contracts (information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Post Office refused to take this directive into consideration which is against a breach of the law.

    4. I would also like to highlight the fact that their Terms & Conditions do not specifically state the amount that will be charged as an early termination charge nor is the method of calculation to be used to arrive at the amount of any early termination charge. In fact, their Terms & Conditions in general, and in particular regarding early termination charges, are extremely vague and unhelpful and lack the transparency required in a contract under which penalty or additional charges are intended to be charged.

All to say, utter utter poor customer service and a total disrespect for customer rights. Avoid Post Office broadband like the plague at all cost!!!

don't even go there. What a useless shower they are. Customer services com[pletely ignored all of my instructions and really messed up my broadband for me. Despite the fact that I cancelled my order within 14 day cool off periopdf, they carried on and disconnected my ISP and connected theirs. They constantly lied to me about their intended actions and despite multiple calls to so called customer services, I was left without broadband for 4 weeks and they have taken £126. from my bank for cancelling a service which I never agreed to. They are despicable and should be avoided at all costs unless you want endless grief from this crew of delinquents. To call them service providers is a total abuse of English language. They are awful, appaling, unreliable and dishonest. Don't go anywhere near them.

I left BT to take out a contract with The Post Office. That was a mistake. The internet is ok during the day, on weekdays, but quite poor on weekends, and has been awful in the evenings, when needed most. Staff at Customer Service were helpful, and keen to help, but nothing has ever really come of it. I suppose you get what you pay for, and this was the cheapest broadband around...

I hope people may look at my previous posts and take my advice. The advice is simple: AVOID,AVOID AVOID the Post Office for broadband. The speeds render the whole thing unusable, I was without a connection for a month - was promised twice that I would get a refund and didn't get a penny - CROOKS the lot of them. I even got threatening calls from a debt collection agency for money that they owed ME !
Don't touch with a bargepole and how the regulator lets them get away with this I really don't know.
AVIOD, AVOID, AVOID THE POST OFFICE BROADBAND. You have been warned.

Truly truly awful. We switched from another provider and have regretted it hugely since. The speed is so slow. The service drops off all of the time. The customer service is atrocious. If I could give no stars on this rating system that would be a closer reflection of our experience. It may be cheap, but it is just not worth it.

We transferred to P.O. broadband because of Sky price increase, worst decision ever, we got phone line on 10 Nov. and were kept waiting for broadband till 7th Dec, getting download speed of .89. We made constant calls to customer/technical services, and never resolved. In all honesty they should not be operating a BB service, not fit for purpose, so we have now gone back to sky, although we cancelled in the 14 days, just waiting for them to try and charge us for early exit!!

I entered into an 18 month contract, the 1st 6 months at £15 then the remaining 12 months £23.That price has increased without warning to £24.Consequently I have lost faith in the P.O and will be leaving at the end of my contract. It is unfair that they can change the terms and agreement that I entered into. For all I know come May they could put their price up again. They may gain a little extra revenue for the remaining 11 months of my contract, but after that I will be leaving. If things had stayed the same I would have commited to another 18 months.A contract is a contract and the agreed amount should stay the same. They are going to lose my custom due to their greed.Be warned people the Post office cannot honour their agreement. After speaking to them all they could do was say I am sorry sir.I know its only a £1 this time but the fact they can increase the price when they want weather in or out of contract is very wrong.

Have just moved from BT in October 2015 to Post Office Home Phone and Broadband Premium. I can tell you now that there is nothing premium about the service they are providing to me. Broadband speed is dismal at .34 mb/ sec after 4 pm weekdays and that's with the telephone exchange just around the corner. In fact the speed is so slow that I have to conduct tasks such as online banking in the early hours of the morning otherwise the site just times out. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired - absolutely useless in my opinion. Have taken out two separate support tickets with no response to either. It appears they're just not interested. Like other's are saying here - if you want a decent broadband service, pay a little extra and look elsewhere. When my 18 month contract is up I'll certainly be taking that advice unless the Post Office drastically improve their service. I think it's a shame that a trusted UK Company feel it's ok to treat their customer with such disregard.

DONT EVEN THINK OF SIGNING UP WITH PO BROADBAND. They are atrocious in both technical service and customer service. I echo previous poor reviews.Since I moved over from PlusNet on 15th December my broadband has been next to unusable, especially late afternoon and evenings when it cuts out completely. Nothing wrong with line or anything else because its up at 5.4 Mbs between 2am and 7am. No catch up tv over Christmas. Tech support useless. They each had their own theories and one told me to buy new master socket from Maplin and change out which I did, but unsurprisingly no change. Basically, you get the dregs of service after BT has provided for their customers. I cancelled and moved back to PlusNet but they sabotaged that by creating a phantom order and stalling the changeover. Very difficult to get in touch with customer support, they cant do anything, failed to reply to my calls and text and wont provide surname of manager. To cap it all they disconnected my phone without notice. Don't go there to save a few bob on line rental. Absolute rubbish.

Terrible service and product. Broadband kept dropping so I cancelled the Internet service. I came back due to the business of changing providers and I was told everything was done and the service would be back on on the 18th etc and a new router was on its way. After 10 days it didn't appear and after calling was told the broadband contract wasn't accepted but they couldn't tell me why!!! No correspondence at all. Disgusted

Similar to a number of other reviewers, my transfer from BT to Post Office broadband was a bit of a disaster. To their credit, their customer service folks did try to help, and I was refunded £20 for the inconvenience.

Once My service was established, my broadband speed deteriorated from the 6Mb/s I had with BT to 2Mb/s with Post Office, then gradually got worse until I hit 0.3Mb/s, resulting in more calls to their customer service folks. To their credit, their tech folks advised they subcon their lines from TalkTalk and admitted there was nothing they could do to help and as a result they would waive their cancellation fee, but I would need to go back to the main customer service folks to try to reclaim the years' line rental I'd paid in advance. Another £8 was credited to my account for the inconvenience.

Immediately thereafter my speed increased to 6 to 7 Mb/s, so I decided to stick with it. Alas this was only a blip lasting about a week before dropping back to the more usual 0.3 - 1.5 Mb/s speeds.

I've since stayed with them for the year (to get my money's worth for the line rental), and I am now leaving to go to Plus Net (fingers crossed for a better speed).

Contrary to many of the reviews, I found their customer service quite good - their folks seemed genuine and did their best to help. Unfortunately I cannot recommend them purely on their speed. BT used to provide me 6 Mb/s and are now offering up to 17 Mb/s on the same line. Post Office offered up to 8Mb/s but delivered substanially less. Personally I believe this is primarily down to TalkTalk who have not bought enough bandwidth to cope with the number of customers they have in the area, and Post Office customers suffer the same fate.

Please trust me on this matter, having transferred both my and my mother's phone/ broadband. It's been the worst decision I've ever made. 12 weeks later, and we're still waiting for any internet connection. This company is dysfunctional. Avoid at all cost- please don't be seduced by the low costs. They are pathologically useless.

The worst broadband known to this planet, to download two gigabyte of data it takes 99 hours. The downloads of this Internet are not worth paying for, I would never recommend this broadband to anyone. Truthfully it's awful, words can't describe how poor of provider of broadband this is. Don't waste money, just rubbish. Frustrating provider and crap Internet!

Back to the 70's with the Post Office 'Premium' broadband. If switching broadband services on exactly (to within 5 mins) of the 2 week cooling off period expiring isn't bad enough, then the 0.2 Mbit/s speeds between 4pm & 12am will certainly convince you of the quality of this Crapita / TalkTalk rip off venture. Please also try the fantastic early exit option. It'll leave you £198 lighter. Nice touch debiting it on New Year's Eve too. I challenge anyone to get a surname from any of the 'customer service' team (for fear of reprisals) let alone an email address. Still fancy it? God help you.
PS 3 stars for consistently reliable joke of a 'service'.

DO NOT GO WITH POST OFFICE BROADBAND! This has to be the worst possible internet and telephone service ever. I was sold telephone and internet and it has been nothing but a joke since day 1. The "Go Live" date came weeks after the agreed date, the internet is extremely low, to which I received the excuse that as a Post Office customer, we are second class to BT (who control the exchange) and we can only get a maximum of 2mbps because BT give their customers the best service before others. Now call me whacky, but should you get the service you pay for the same as everybody else. but lets face it, every company provider of every service these days are just ripping you off and couldn't care less about you, only you're money is important. it's about time this thieves were made to give the service they advertise. Well and truly sick.

Despite twice querying during mye transfer from Plusnet why there was a 15 day wait between telephone and broadband changeover I was not told that the service would be by a different line. They could then have told me the likely speed. I received 6+Meg from Plusnet. The speed PO quoted was 7-8 meg, I actually received 0.5! It took 3 days to get admission that this was all they could provide. They have also billed twice for the rental despite my warning they were duplicating! They say they didn't guarantee a speed. They are still quoting on their speed checker 7-8 Meg for my neighbour!

Been with p o broadband for about 10 days now. I get about 7.2 mbps at peak times and about 7.7 at off peak. Only dropped out once turned router off and back on and was back on line in no time. P o said I would get about 8 mbps and they weren't far off. So far would recommend this product. The only thing I have found is that apparently if you go over 100 gb in less than a month they may throttle the connection for the rest of the month.

Post office has been harassing my aged mother and i for money not owed. They charge the elderly a special fee called leveling up which only pensioners are charged £60.00 above her bill this year less other years. I objected she was cut off threatened bullied with calls of a debt she is connected to a help monitor so when cut off for a week she was sneered at and told to pay or
Call 999 for help. She was held to random with her health given the worse dort of bullying you could imagine my God what we do.we are told to pay for periods without line uasge. Also for me i am over charged cut off for weeks on end customer services refuses to end my broadband contract are bullying and has blighted my and my mothers life. The one aspect i cannot stand is the large sums of money post office cons out of confused and easily panicked old people who hate debt. Three of my elderly mithers friends at her lunch club are charged this leveling up charge also i have yet to find a young person who is charged this item. Im sick to the stomarch the post office has picked on this vulnerable group.KEEP AWAY FROM POST OFFICE PHONE AND BROADBAND.

If your thinking of going to post office for broadband DON'T! We've only been a month and we're going to cancel and go back to BT after constant phonecalls to them, being told lies from day one and really bad service from the off (not even getting 0.03 YES THAT'S 0.03 mbps)! Costs more but at least you get the service from bt!!! We have just contacted watchdog and be contacting post office customer services to get a full refund of all monies paid to them and compensation!!!

Post office broadband promised 5-7Mbps for my location and I did get that, between 3 and 6 in the morning, in the evening it went to the dizzying heights of 0.2!
Every time I rang customer services was in hold for at least 30 mins before I got to speak to a person and no-one seemed interested, they just kept telling me to do speed tests and that my speed might be all the line can handle!
Finally got through to someone useful who told me the customer retentions number (020 3747 1439) and after moaning at someone there I have got out of my 18 month contract with no charges and just received a refund of the years line rental I paid, back to BT for me, they might be more money but I never had a problem with them before!

Third update from me on this site and since going live on 27th November I haven't had a single problem with my home phone or broadband (touch wood!!) As stated in my first review I found the whole installation process very efficient with frequent and appropriate updates via text and email, the landline call quality is fantastic....no crackle on the line and although the router looks a bit cheap it is currently working like a dream and I'm very happy with my broadband, not a single outage or faiure and the speed test on this website is 13.57 MB download speed and upload 0.67, 71ms ping time....all of this is meaningless to me but I have found internet usage to be completely reliable even when viewing ITV Player or YouTube. When I have phoned customer services to sort out access problems to my online account and billing queries(both resolved)I found the customer service assistants to be polite and helpful.I live 0.9 miles from the exchange so its not as if I can say my overall satisfaction for the P.O Service is down to the fact that I live across the road from the exchange (clearly I don't!).Free broadband for a year ,£12 a month line rental (paid a year in advance) and unlimited calls anytime to UK landlines and 08 numbthe(£7 per month) which includes calls abroad and to UK mobiles over the weekend (from 6pm Frid)....Based on all the negative reviews on this site Im expecting some sort of major failure anytime soon!! Meantime I'm thrilled with my package from the Post Office (fantastic deal and the cheapest by far!!)....I just hope it continues as it SEEMS like I'm the only satisfied customer in the UK!!!

Absolutely the worst broadband. As i write this at 8.30pm I'm not seeing anything over 20 Kbps, yes 20! Between 2 and 3 pm while your at work and not using your broadband you might get up to 2 Mbps, if the wind is blowing the right direction that is. The router that comes with the package is sub standard and cant support multiple devices. Smart TV? Dream on. Want to sit down to watch iPlayer? i hope its 3am when you do. Our dealing with customer service wasn't too bad, got through quite quick and discussed it. After heavy persuasion, they did say if we couldn't get the service we wanted in the next week they would be able to cancel the service at no cost. So to all you stuck in a 18 month contract, pester away.

Anyone who gives money to Post Office broadband needs their head looking at. Terrible, terrible service. I had three weeks of hassle trying to get my phone and broadband installed. At one point the technical team asked me to contact BT myself and ask what the problem was. I replied that I wasn't a BT customer (this was news to them).
I kept being promised calls back which never came. In chasing I kept being sent around the houses.
Having cancelled my order I lodged a compensation claim for the hassle caused and the work forgone. The offer doesn't even cover the costs of calls to Post Office chasing up the problem

Finally made the effort to leave and glad to do so. Started as a great service eight or so years ago but in the recent past a steady decline. Confusing pricing changes/increases and a definite and significant slowing down of speeds (suspect some sort of choking off at peak times). A pity really - would have remained a loyal customer, but something has gone very wrong. 'Bye Post Office.

Update (roughly 10 days after home phone and broadband installation) I'm still thrilled with my post office home phone and broadband deal....after all the hundreds of negative reviews on this site,I half expected SOME sort of failure to have occurred by now, once again (ASTONISHINGLY) all is completely fine and I'm very pleased that I signed up for this fantastically cheap deal:excellent call quality and more than adequate broadband ....no problems with my router or any outages etc etc....am I just lucky or have the Post Office started to correct some of the issues mentioned on here by other reviewers?

Not great.. we switched to Post Office 9 months ago, knowing it could be a bit of a risk. Speed is very unreliable, they replaced the modem, no improvement. I stopped calling them. I am just waiting for the end of the contract in 3 months to switch to a more reliable provider.

Gaming is a nightmare. Great with my last provider, shocking with this.Continual buffering, freezing and cutting off. I am really hoping that this improves as Christmas approaches and the family want to play games on their computers.

when I first signed up with the Post Office, the speed was independently tested as 7.5 mbps, now it is 1.2 mbps, I have complained to the Post Office and was told that 1.2 mbps was all that I can expect, even though I can see the the local exchange from my house. Have Openreach replaced the copper wire from the exchange to my house with string?

    Useless Post office telephones

I have been waiting for almost 4 weeks for the Post office to connect my telephone service. Having spent almost 3 days on the phone to them and waiting in for them to connect our phone up, we are still without.
Their customer service centre is useless. Unless you have a problem that works with their on screen prompts...dont bother ringing. No one is empowered to make a decision
despite having spoken to a manager...I am still without telephone service. They cannot understand unless it works with the script they are given.

We are a new customer waiting to be connected. I told the operator when I first called, that the wire to our house was not connected...its a new house. I could see the wire dangling from the telegraph pole. I said "it needs to be connected into our house "
This must have thrown them entirely..no one could understand what on earth I was talking about.
I then went through a series of phone calls with I believe almost every operator in "Post office telephones" kept getting cut off, left holding on for periods exceeding 50 mins at a time. Every time I got cut off or transfered I needed to go through the whole proceedure again. Name address, postcode account number. I went from pillar to post no one was able to do anything.
For me it was a simple request....Get someone round to connect the phone wire into my house.
just wished I had read some reviews before committing to them...Terrible useless!!

I only wish I saw these reviews before I joined the Post Office broadband 1 month ago. I went live just two weeks ago. I have no broadband service as it keeps going off. No end of excuses from them. Keeps going on and off all day every day and no broadband at all some days. I have had several calls to them but still no help. HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THIS 18 MONTH CONTRACT. Do not touch this service.
