Owing to slow broadband services we complained to TalkTalk. Their response was to send us an unrequested pack for TV, which we had to return and no broadband improvement! Also our bill charged us for unrequested and unused TV services-adding insult to injury!
As further phone calls failed to secure an improvement in broadband we decided to move to BT. The changeover was carried out by BT on 27 August. We received a bill after this by direct debit. IN October 2014 we received a bill for £137 stating this was for total new charges. When I rang Talktalk they stated it was for breakage of contract. On checking the account online, I can find no details of start of contract. The terms and conditions mention a minimum contract period but there is no clarity as to what constitutes a minimum time when breakage payment falls due.
At present I have refused to pay this as it arrived 5 weeks after the changeover to BT and I can find no reference to a 'contract' and 'breakage fee'.
Has anybody else experienced this?

If I could I would give this company NO stars. Please, please, please read these reviews carefully and DO NOT choose Talk Talk. I placed my order on the 17th September after talking at length with a manager in sales about a fibre broadband engineer install. I placed my order online and selected my install date of Mon 6th October from various options on screen. Within 2 hours I received an email stating that the date for installation had been changed to the 13th October. On the 9th October I received the hardware from Talk Talk ready for the engineer visit. I arranged for my 72 year old ill father to sit in my property from 8am til 1pm to let the engineer in while I was at work. I would like to add that I received a text message from Talk Talk on Friday 10th October confirming the engineers appointment. Guess what?!!! The engineer never arrived. I phoned them up where a chap from India called Ken very kindly informed me that they have now changed the date of my installation to the 27th October. I told him to stick my order up his a**e and cancel it. Can you believe he then wanted me to confirm my details before he could transfer me to the cancellation time at which point I told him to get off the line and never phone me up again. I really couldn't rate this company's customer service any worse than, sorry but I can't write what I'm thnking on this page! They are the most inefficient company I have ever dealt with.

I have had nothing but issue with TalkTalk. I signed up and had a engineer turn up on the second of October. On the 3rd of October i called to find out why my line kept dropping out. They then ran a line test and said they was a fault found and i would have to pay £50. I was not happy about this outcome so i spoke to a manager. The manager confirmed that there was not a fault found and that i had been given incorrect information. After then i made a complaint about this issue and after a few days i was compensated £3.50 and told that my bill is £13.50 and that after the compensation it would be £10.00 and due on the 2nd of November. I then checked my bill this morning (after the line is still playing up but i cant deal with calling over and over to do the same line test over and over again) and my bill was £29.80 and due on the 16th of October. I then checked my contract and i had the same 2nd November there too. I have just got off the phone with a manager and he has informed me that no where does it say 2nd November and that i had been speaking to a technical department who has no right to give bill information as they do not know. He has then continued to tell me there is a £5 charge on my account for anytime calls that i didn't ask to have on my account.
I will keep this on as its useful but again i had not been informed of this add-on. I have also been told many many times that i would get a call back and never do. Half of the staff cant understand a word i am saying and the over half just lie non stop. This has been confirmed by off com that this is a breach of contract and that if this issue is not resolved then i have the right to exit my contract without fee. I have also been told if its confirmed that i had been given the incorrect date, the date wont be changed this month. If this issue is not solved, i will be leaving my contract and i will be taking further action if there is any charge.
Worst mistake moving to talk talk and on my 7mb line i mostly get 2mb most. Other day a 24 hour speed test even showed a 0.60mb for 3 hours. This is not acceptable and its disguising that i have been lied to so many times. If i have to exit my contract and i am charged, i will be taking legal action.

In my opinion they do not deserve any stars. From the first day of having talktalk and having an engineer install everything, we have had problems. The engineer was VERY inappropriate, making inappropriate comments.
MULTIPLE phone calls have been made about our AWFUL broadband speed. An engineer was called out (free) and checked our speed and left. Nothing was resolved. He said there were errors and that couldnt be fixed.
An engineer came last week for the same reason and had a coffee, checked our speed and left. Nothing resolved this time either. I was told the call out would be FREE otherwise i would NEVER pay it unless completely necessary, especially being a student.. but they are trying to charge me for the call out. Customer service is horrific, the services are very bad.
I only went with talktalk as it was the cheapest at the time when I was starting university, but now.. I wish i had payed more. From the extreme bad services to their bad customer service skills. They try and charge you for little things now and again.. adding sly little charges.
I WOULD NOT recommend talktalk and would say just just go for the more expensive. You probably wont get any problems.
I can't wait to leave, and start up with Virgin. Never had any problems with them!!!

If your thinking about using Talk Talk think again! The Tv is slower than an 80's Atari computer! Customers can't' t understand what you are saying and talk over every sentence you say by saying 'I understand'! After over an hour on the phone complaining they finally agreed to send a technician out. The technician came and said setting needed changing which. He did- however speed no different yet the CHEEk of Talk Talk then taken £50 put of my bank account for this apparent service! I then got charged from the bank as there was then not enough for my direct debits that day! After again over an hour phone call and about 6 different people who had the most appalling customer service standards, they agreed to waive the charge and send another technician out to fix the problem free of charge. The technician said Talk Talk would call me within 2 days to see if it's any better- low and behold 3 weeks later no call and slower speed and to top it off ANOTHER charge of £50!!!!!Will never use this Company ever again! So if your thinking of going with Talk Talk again- think again..... A kick in the teeth is more enjoyable!

I urge anybody that is thinking about going with talk for any of their services to think again. Worst mistake I ever made. I wish I had stayed with sky.
My talk talk broadband is fine when it's actually working, but the problem is that the broadband only works for five minutes at a time before dropping out. I have spent hours on the phone to them about this, I have had countless engineers come out and tell me it's fixed. It isn't fixed and I doubt it ever will be. Talk talk are dreadful, I have never experience a customer service that is as useless and unhelpful.

The worst broadband provider I have ever had the displeasure to use. Firstly, after promising to remain at the cost that was advertised, TalkTalk tripled the bill and added a hefty cancellation fee. Secondly, the actual quality of the broadband is ridiculous beyond belief. To be paying so much for something that is so slow and that keeps cutting out, leading to a minimum half hour repair just to be able to go online is appalling. Would absolutely not recommend at all and find it hard to believe that anyone has had a positive experience with such a money-grabbing, inept company.

The 3rd of sept I got home and the wifi and computer stopped working. So I called Talk Talk to try to solve the problem but they couldn't. I got an engineer appointment for the 23 so I need to be home otherwise I will be charged £20 surprise !!no one appears. I Called them and the person I spoke to could hardly speak English and when I said I want to cancel I got an English person who want me to book another engineer appointment for 3 weeks time I was so angry.
He told me that if an engineer didn't come before the 4 oct I can cancel my contract. Talk talk did not call me back regarding the repair. That was almost a month without having the Internet which is unacceptable. So I called on the 4th to cancel my contract with them, which I was advised by Talk Talk that I was entitled to do. To my surprise I need to pay for breaking my contract with no compensation for the month I had been with no internet or tv. thanks talk talk for the good 8 years of your service but when a problem occures talktalk is the worse. They are unhelpful , unsympathetic and unreliable. In this day and age that level of service from a company is unacceptable.

I was looking for a broadband provider and was stopped in our local shopping centre.I was told by the salesman that i would get 50 worth of free calls per month sounds good, not so.After receiving the contract i could not see this on the contract, rang the salesman who said i would definattaly get 50 pounds of free calls per month, and said to ring customer service if i did not believe him, customer service i would only get a call to say that my bill at reached 50 pounds.I rang the salesperson, he said that he would sort it when he was next in the office and ring me, still waiting. Also the speed is nothing like what they said ie that the speed would be between 7 to 17 , nowhere near that speed sometimes as low as .89

The worst ever broadband and customer service i had. The broadband did not work for two weeks after activation date and when i called them the were not willing to help. After two weeks and some more calls i was connected but very bad connection which kept breaking. I was willing to upgrade but they responded there was no such option and that i can go anywhere. I was forced to change the provider and then on top of that they charged me cancellation fee of GBP 80.00. I am willing to write the regulatory for this robbery. will not advise to go for talk talk, pay a little more and go somewhere else.

I have never in my life been so anger in completely regret having the talk talk services it's a bunch of bull. On the 3rd of September I request to add the tv services to my already running broadband and telephone services. I was then told I will have to wait until the 15th for an engineer to come set it up properly. The 15th had come and the engineer showed up and installed my box. He the realize the internet channels( which are the non-freeview channels are not working because he was in a rush he fobbed e off wit the excuse of because it's my go live day not all my channels will be working give it a few hours. I then waited 24hrs still no channels. The following day I have contacted talk talk and reported the problem. Now on top of being given the run around and having to ring 10times I eventually rang the cancellation team cause by now I was completely giving up. They then put me thru to 5 different technical support staff I was then told I will have to wait until the 1st of October between 7-9 for an appointment. I was very anger with this and voiced it so they then added a free 3montha subscription to my plan but the wasn't helpful as I still can't watch the tv or access it's services. The day of the engineer has come and the engineer has not turned up. Ringing back talk talk to speak to someone I'm being told they have no contact with the engineers therefore they can't tell me weather he will turn up or not. Completely unsatisfied with talk talk.

I have been a customer of Talk Talk now for 6 years. Broadband has occasionally gone off for a few hours but has been restored without having to notify the company. I don't find this unreasonable I'm sure it happens on all networks.
Last week my broadband disappeared and it was clear there was something wrong.
I reported the fault and was put in contact with the call centre in India, the people there were extremely patient and helpful, I have to admit that they were at times a little difficult to understand but they did repeat things slowly until I did understand. I had two long sessions whilst they tested all manner of things and eventually it was concluded that there must be a fault in the equipment in my home. I was told that an engineer would be sent and an appointment was made as soon as possible. Several text messages were sent to keep me up to date with what was happening.
The engineer arrived exactly as promised and sorted out the fault.
I would just like to say that I found all the staff I dealt with to be extremely polite and caring. It was annoying to be without broadband for a week but I don't run a business from home or anything so no great harm was caused.
Personally I would recommend Talk Talk to anybody I think they are a very genuine company.

I will never recommend TalkTalk to anybody! I have received terrible service!!
I wanted to transfer from BT to TalkTalk due to price and it was the biggest mistake of my life. My services were due to transfer a month ago and to date no one can tell my why it has taken so long or what the plan of action is - i have escalated to the highest level within TalkTalk with no answers! I rung this morning for an update because it has taken a month and they have cancelled my transfer request!!!!
Back to BT I go!!

We have been with TalkTalk, previously Tiscali. In all those years we have only had a couple of issues. Both times the engineer turned up as planned and fixed the problem. Each time we have call customer service, either for the problems mentioned or an enquiry about our bill, they have answered the phone efficiently. Cannot understand why so many people have experienced bad customer service? We were leaving at one point as one if the other companies, at that time was offering it cheaper, but before it was even installed we had issues with getting hold of them and they were up North! Therefore we remained with TalkTalk. Everyone seems at one time or another to have issues with their provider, especially their speeds. Incidentally when the broadband has died a couple of times, it has been BT equipment that had gone down for one reason or another. Customer service is really important to us.

Until now I believed 3 mobile were the worst company in the world. No...Its TalkTalk. 6 weeks of intermittent service, 40+ calls to call centre 7 'engineer' visits (5 of which never arrived). I gave up. These muppets will simply never fix it! I have 2 months of intermittent service now until i can finally get rid of these idiots forever. My sanity simply will not stand another call to their utterly useless call centre. DON'T JUST DON'T!

Be for I had the normal braudband and was getting 6mbps off peek and on peak I was getting 1-2mbps so I upgraded to medium sized fibre, witch instead if all copper cables its fibre to the green box down the road then copper cable to my house. Full fibre is no copper cables at all witch it better. but my medium fibre speed im getting it 32-38mbps off peek and at peek times like between 6pm and 9pm I get about 20-30mbps witch is plenty for me and no more buffering..so WELL DONE. talktalk you deserve this good review.

I applied for a 1-year contract with Talk Talk in the beginning of May 2014, received a message that it is up and running end of May. Although it was not! THREE MONTHS AND FIVE ENGINEERS as well as MULTIPLE CALLS with USELESS call centre employees only FORWARDING the call through various department who BARELY SPEAK ENGLISH... and STILL NO INTERNET!
I cancelled the contract and they REFUSE TO RETURN MONEY PAID FOR LINE RENTAL (although I did NOT RECEIVE A SINGLE SECOND OF BROADBAND in 4 months!!)
If you are choosing broadband provider, go to any, but don't be fooled by Talk Talk. I thought I will economise on £3.5 per month. Turned out I paid this + BT 1week wi-fi internet (which is very expensive)!!

I signed up to Talktalk broadband, and was meant to have an active connection by midnight on the 16/09/14. I went to set the router up that was sent out by Talktalk to find that there was a fault that Talktalk agreed to being there issue. They said that they would send an engineer on the 19/09/14 between 1500hrs and 1800hrs, well they did not show. I called there not so helpful customer service center to be told that an engineer was now not available until the 26/09/14, I explained it was not acceptable and to be lied to as a new customer was not acceptable and that I wished to terminate the contract now, they transferred me to the customer services department, who cut me off as soon as I started to explain why I wished to leave. So I called back jumped through all the hoops to get a new customer service rep, who when told why I wished to leave decided to just keep going, well it's only a week can't you wait a week? not even a week? Eh no. My business uses the internet and therefore if this is the customer service so early into a new contract I wish to leave now, so reluctantly they cancelled my contract, but then claimed to they will still bill me for the line until a new ISP takes over. What a piss take. So anyway, avoid at all costs, bad customer service, bad tech support and call centers outside the UK.

EVERYONE, DO NOT MAKE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE BY SIGNING UP TO TALK TALK FOR A PAINFUL 12-18MONTHS! IGNORE THE ADVERTS, IT'S CHEAP FOR A REASON!
Where do I begin? I joined Talk Talk because it was cheap and an alternative to Sky, etc. Installation was fine, everything was up and running. Here is a list of everything that went wrong and what I think makes Talk Talk the worst provider in the market:
1) Speed dropped. Internet went slow which has a knock on effect on the TV as all the interface is fed through the internet connection. So, slow internet, slow interface. Press 'Guide' button, wait 5 seconds for it to pop up. Don't even attempt to watch anything in HD, buffer, buffer, error, error!
2) Customer Service! Or what I like to call 'Speak to someone miles away in another Country who speaks poor English and let them read a script to you which doesn't solve any of your problems" First you'll be on hold for ages then transferred to a whole array of people who offer as much help as the person before.
3) Talk Talk rejected by Direct Debit for no reason and was charged £4.50 every month for 'Non Direct-Debit' payment method. After a call for 3 hours I finally got all this refunded!
4) I left Talk Talk to join Sky (who can do things properly), and they are still trying to charge me! Robbing %$^%&^%!
5) Talk Talk randomly put my price up by £5 half way through my contract and didn't really explain why. That means I was paying close to £40, more than Sky and Virgin basic packages. What a joke!
Talk Talk is the worst service/product I have EVER signed up to. Take my advice, pay the same price (or even a few £££ less) and get Sky! Internet is super quick, TV is 100 times better, Customer Service is brilliant, £100 M&S welcome discount and several months half price!
DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE, I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU ALL! :)

I found this website by chance and cant believe the negativity expressed by the majority of reviews. I dont usually leave reviews but feel motivated to do so to try and redress the balance. I have been a TalkTalk customer for approximately 5 years and have never had an issue with the company. My telephone works no problem, my broadband speed is excellent, my You View TV service is very good and my mobile SIM only deal is an absolute bargain. I have had to contact customer services on only a couple of occasions in 5 years as I find that the help pages on the TalkTalk website usually answer my query or show me how to solve the problem. When I have had to talk to customer services they have always been very helpful. OK there may be a slight difference in communication style due to their call centre being in India but the staff are very polite & do try their best to help. I dont know if I have been extremely lucky, or other people have been very unlucky, but I can only reiterate that I have had no issues with this company and wanted to give other visitors to the site an alternative view.

Moving home and moving with this company is not a good experience. Gave them the notice of the move, on the expected day of the new connection, nothing happened, called the following day, told there was a problem on the line and an engineer needed to call. First the man on the end of the phone asked me to unscrew the telephone box on the wall and look at the wires, not on your life, will I. he arranged for and engineer, after telling me this would cost me £50, NO NO NO not down to me you have had time to check this before now. The engineer came on the allotted day, to my old address, got shirtie with me for not being in, phoned again arranged another engineer and he to was sent to the wrong address. phoned again this time asked to speak to a manager form the off, he arranged for another engineer for 1 weeks time, after I reminded him that I had had no phone for 3 weeks thanks to Talk Talk (or should that be NO TALK), the appointment was changed to the following day, along with 3 months free line rental and £20 credit(We will see if that happens)this engineer has yet to arrive watch this space.!!

Never in my life have I known a company be so rude and unhelpful.
Not only do they basically call you stupid when you ask for an engineer they then continue to speak about you in another language that makes the call center laugh.
I have taken them to the three homes I have moved to and have had problems every single time. I wish i learnt my lesson.
I have now rung virgin and it is being installed Tuesday!
Good riddence I say.

Talktalk deserve no stars! Sept 3rd reported no phone/internet. Told engineer will review. No updates from talk talk just me having to contact them. 5 days later still nothing. Customer services appalling...they do not understand and avoid answering specific questions. Many answers aresimply scripted! Day 5 of no service spoke to a manager who said it is a major fault and openet are on stage 2 of the repairs. The line should be repaired in the next 24 -48 hours and the talktalk customer services manager will call me back within that time. Surprise surprise... No call from the manager at all let alone when he said he would. Now on day 8 of no line (hence no phone or internet) spoke to a not her customer service manager.... I'm told openet working on the problem which is major and affecting other people. Funny the council know nothing about this major problem! So it gets worse...talktalk now tell me I will be contacted on September 20th for an update!!!! This means no line until at least then which is totally unacceptable. Not only will I have no phone or internet which I need for work and college I also still do not know what the actual problem is and how many other people are affected. Talktalk are absolutely USELESS and should be answerable for such appalling service! Don't ever take a contract with talktalk.

Dreadful, steer clear
I ordered the full set up after Bt started raising prices
The main issue was with the TV, we were sent a second hand box as new customers, which still had programmes recorded on it!! Plus it did not work
I asked for a new one but they insisted I needed an engineer visit, the soonest being 4th oct (the complaint being on 8th sept!)
I decline explaining I just needed a new box and I would return the old one, again they refused. I explained that in which case I would like to leave and set up with sky who instantly set things up
Talk talk are now pursuing me for 17x£15.50 as I have broken contract, stating they have 28 days in which to put the problem right.
They are rude and unreasonable
The battle continues

For months now i've had crackling on the land line that stops my internet connection.Had many egineers come out, even had inbuilt filter installed.Talktalk then say my problem should be fixed.I get a few hrs of no crackling then back to normal.Contract runs out March2015 but so want to leave talktalk because not happy with the service i am getting. Why should i pay penalty for leaving talktalk when they are so rubbish. If i brought a car & it kept braking down i'd want my money back.I would never recommend talktalk to a friend.

Absolute pain in the A**
I have never written a review before, so maybe it'll help calm my frustration with what I've just been through with talk talk.
Recently moved into my first property and was looking for the best/cheapest broadband option, I came across talk talk and signed up!
I waiting 2 weeks from signing up for my services to go live, and on the date which they was the problems arrived. I was greeted with a internet page whenever I tried to connect to WIFI stating that 'talk talk has put a restriction on your line due to an outstanding amount' and would not let me connect. At this point I was highly confused, due to me only just setting up with talk talk, and due to be going live why should there be an outstanding amount? This is when the phone calls started, I phoned in (from my mobile) to query this issue, and was told that that wasn't the case and to follow some router settings they'd send me via email after them saying from their end that my connection was fine(which it wasn't). I was on the phone for 40 minutes when they sent over the link to find it was the WRONG LINK!! at this point I am so frustrated with the services and the disappointing customer service! I phoned another 3 times that day totally to a wapping 3 hours call time which I am being charged for, to be given the same excuse almost that they didn't believe what I was saying. In the end, and after phone twice a day, every day for a week they soon found there to be some sort of BAR on my network (no fault of mine) that they cant seem to fix/budge or even understand why it's their. Numerous times they said they'd call back, they never have, and I am still left with no services. To make matters worse, I came across a bill online which is due to come out any day, I cannot believe this when I have never, or even yet to have received any broadband services from them! I still keep phoning, to be told that my issue is being 'repaired' but that's how far it gets and I am left in the dark, not knowing any different from what I did from day 1. I have decided I am just going to cancel my services with Talk talk, and try to be compensated for all the time wasting, and expensive calls. Absolute waste of time, and I recommend to anyone, not to go anywhere near talk talk as they are useless in all different concepts!!

I have been using talk for an year and I moved from my address on April 2014 after completing the period of contract. Though I informed about it and the account was cancelled they have been deducting money from the direct debit and it also went high from 12 pounds to 32.29. Made lot of calls.. still haven't sort it out. I was asked to wait till 8th September. Let us see what happens next.

I decided to go for talktalk's very appealing offer, placed the order and set the appointment date for their engineer to come to my house and set me up. That day arrived, my girlfriend had taken the day off to let the engineer in but he never arrived.
She spent 45 minutes on the phone to be finally told that an email had been sent by them the previous day to cancel. They had not and there was no record of any communication from them. They also said they would be in touch to arrange another day, they did nothing.
Four days later I do receive an email from them saying they were sorry that I had decided to cancel my order. I had not made any contact with them what so ever.
I am truly disgusted with the deceitful and dishonest way talktalk operate and will be certain to spread the word and dissuade any who might be thinking of using them. STAY AWAY!!!
